Two paintings by Alex de Vrede set sail in the course of April 2000, the artist being among a select group of painters to accept a commission for a series of paintings for Holland America Line's recently christened luxury ocean liner, the "Zaandam". |
Alex de Vrede spent over a year working on his two HAL paintings. Stringent fire safety requirements having precluded the use of masonite, his standard panel material, he ended up having to use 3 mm-thick aluminium instead. The downside of this is that the two paintings cannot be returned on loan for his upcoming exhibition at Lieve Hemel Gallery, which is scheduled to take place in the spring of 2001. Not to worry unduly, however, for both works will be reproduced in the accompanying catalogue. |
