The Amateur (2) |
If I were asked to give my opinion on what has been happening recently in the political periphery, I would try - in anticipation of furious pros and cons - to create a diversion by broaching the level of difficulty of the question as to how it can be that people are moved by strings of sounds arranged in an orderly fashion, but there is a connection even there, in that what you and I might snort at will prompt others to weep without restraint. I hope that I too will eventually say that nothing is easier than judging sentiments while nothing is more difficult than meeting with appreciation on the part of those involved. And in so far as anyone by sheer coincidence considers themselves fortunate to be operating at their own level, I will belatedly make an effort to wrap up the harsh truth in a pretty package because it is unscientific to speak of a superior level as long as the passage of time is shown to co-contribute to what is experienced as an uptrend. But open as I am to all things I'd prefer not to compromise on my self-acquired insights, even though it remains very much to be seen whether my keeping them to myself actually benefits anyone else even if I failed to convince a soul. On second thought, it would be highly inappropriate if my vanity were to take such flight as to convince me that I could afford graciously to remain silent … and so I have no choice but to resume the laborious thinking process. |
