Having barely had time to catch his breath in the wake of the exhibition in March of this year, where his work was completely sold out before opening night was over, Karel Sirag had the unsettling experience, in the course of what should have been a routine check-up, of being rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the Red Cross Hospital in The Hague to be prepped for an urgent quintuple bypass operation. Fortunately both the operation and Sirag’s recovery couldn’t have gone better, but the news nevertheless came as a dreadful shock to keen customers who innocently inquired when new miniatures were expected to become available.
As for Karel Sirag, he most certainly did not have himself in mind while working on the miniature below the last work he completed before his exhibition. |
